STEPHEN C BEHRENDT grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan, later
earning a PhD at the University of Wisconsin. He is George Holmes Distinguished
Professor of English at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, where he also
serves as a reader for Prairie Schooner. His first collection of poems,
Instruments of the Bones (1992) won the First Series Award from Mid-List
Press. In addition, he has published articles on the the Romantic period and
comparative literature. His most recent book of poetry is A Step in the Dark
(Mid-List Press, 1996). He is also the author of Reading William Blake
(Macmillan) and many books of criticism, articles, and reviews. He was the winner
of the first Nebraska Individual Artist Fellowship from the Nebraska Arts Council
and, in 1997, was a winner of the NAC's Merit Award.
