Milkwood Review is an on-line, interdisciplinary journal that seeks to create a web
environment in which poetry, fiction, non-fiction, speculative essays, short scholarly
articles, hypertext, original musical compositions, and visual art are presented in a
form appropriate to each discipline--with the publishing space designed around the
work and not the reverse. Every attempt will be made to accommodate the author's
wishes in the presentation of the text. One of the main features of the journal is that
each literary piece will appear accompanied by a real-audio sample of the author
reading the work (no longer than 3 minutes). For this reason, the editor is biased
toward writing that puts the musical aspect of a piece foremost in its composition.
The title of the journal reflects this bias in that it is derived from Dylan Thomas'
verse-drama, Under Milkwood.
Another distinctive feature of the review is that it will not have traditional "issues."
Instead, work will be available at the review site after
acceptance, and work will be added throughout the year. Readers will be able to
see the "issue" build towards completion. At the end of a reading period, the final
version will have reached completion and the next one will begin development.
Every "issue" will be available for one year and then each work will be archived.
At this point, Milkwood Review is not a print journal and is not designed to compete with literary journals but to
expand the publishing possibilities for artists whose work may or may not be
adequately presented in other formats. We will publish original and previously
published work for which the author owns the rights.
Layout samples:
At this point we offer contributors two possible layout options for their work, offset and full page. To view samples of these layouts please click on the appropriate icon. The editors thank Senior Advisor Jack Ridl for allowing Milkwood to use his poetry and voice for these samples.
